Awesomely Vandalized Soviet Monument in Bulgaria

By 12:46 AM , ,

Interesting World does not promote vandalism but this one is just too awesome to ignore. A Soviet Army monument in Sofia, Bulgaria was vandalized many times in the past by unknown "artists".

In 2011, the monument's sculpture of Soviet soldiers, was made to look like popular culture icons such as Superman, Santa Claus, Ronald McDonald, Captain America, Robin, The Joker, etc.

Of course, Russia wasn't happy. We could just imagine an angry ambassador at the other end of the phone line in Russia's Embassy in Bulgaria.

The Joker is eerily accurate! Props to the artist!

Russia demanded a clean-up and Bulgaria humbly apologized but the 2011 vandalism seemed inspirational to other "artists" so it happened again.

In 2013, the monument was painted pink which staged an "artistic apology" for Bulgaria's support of Soviet troops who suppressed Czechoslovakia's Prague Spring revolt against Moscow-based communist rulers.

In 2014, the monument was painted in the colors of the Ukranian flag. I wonder what's the theme this year.
